Outdoor Monitor for Payment Terminals: High‑Performance Touch Display with Integrated Access Control

12.1” Touch Display
A major Italian player, active in the service‑station market and specialized in developing technology solutions for retail fueling and adjacent markets, was looking for a reliable outdoor display to integrate into its payment terminals.

The need

The request was clear: a robust, high‑performance touch display capable of withstanding intensive use and the environmental stresses typical of outdoor applications. The customer needed a screen with optimal visibility in all lighting conditions—from full sun exposure to nighttime—and that would maintain the same reliability even with extreme temperature swings. In addition, there was a need to integrate an immediate and secure access system for service‑station staff, in order to simplify maintenance and service activities while eliminating the risk of theft or loss of external devices.

The solution

KF developed a custom monitor based on a 12.1” TFT panel with 1000 cd/m² brightness and an extended temperature range (‑30° / +80 °C), paired with a 6 mm touch glass with Anti‑Glare and Anti‑Finger treatment. This combination ensures excellent visibility even in full sunlight and reduces the marks left by intensive use. The display integrates the KF1840 AD Board, designed to operate at extreme temperatures (‑20° / +80 °C), with HDMI, DP and VGA interfaces. The system also enables remote monitoring, ensuring support and immediate interventions.
To meet the need for quick and secure access to the terminal by staff, a biometric fingerprint sensor was embedded directly into the display glass. This solution avoids the use of external devices, reduces the risk of theft, and enables quick and effective registrations by operators.

The final result

Thanks to the solution developed by KF, the customer was able to implement a solid, secure and intuitive outdoor payment terminal capable of ensuring operational continuity even in the most critical conditions. The integration of the fingerprint reader directly into the display glass made access procedures faster and more efficient, reducing response times and increasing staff productivity. At the same time, the elimination of external devices raised the overall level of security, simplifying management and reducing the risks related to theft or loss. A solution that combines advanced technical performance with tangible value for day‑to‑day operations.
