Dual Display for ATMs: Integrated Privacy and Communication in a Single Solution

15″ Touch Display 1600 cd/m², PF, pCap 8 mm AG+PF, VGA/HDMI/DP, EETI 80H60, KF1840 AD Board

The project originated in the banking sector for an important Japanese‑owned customer with a production site in Spain, recognised among the international leaders in the field. The requirement was to develop a dual monitor for ATMs, with one version equipped with a privacy filter for confidential operations and another without a touch screen dedicated to advertising communication, while at the same time ensuring functional and discreet integration in the application context.

The need

The customer was looking for a solution that could combine two monitors – one for the user interface with full privacy and one for streaming advertising content without a touch screen – both of which could be seamlessly integrated into the typical “through‑the‑wall” structure of bank branches in order to maintain a clean and modern design.

Because of the nature of the application, installed semi‑outdoors and often located in areas exposed to challenging weather conditions, resistance to high temperatures and direct sunlight was required.

The solution

KF developed a versatile structure that can be used both for the user‑interface monitor and for the version dedicated to advertising or customised communication.

The first version, consisting of a high‑brightness TFT (1600 cd) and an 8 mm capacitive touch, features a Privacy Filter laminated between the glass and the touch sensor, with an additional Anti‑Glare treatment on the glass. The second version instead offers a standard brightness of 450 cd, and has neither touch nor Privacy Filter, but only a double protective glass 4+4 mm thick.

The final result

Both in the 8 mm version and in the 4+4 mm one, consisting of two sheets of glass bonded together with OCR (Optical Crystal Resin) technology, the monitors fit perfectly into the ATM structure, creating a single surface between the touch glass and the machine frame.

The total thickness of 8 mm gives the product strength and allows it to meet anti‑vandalism standards.
The integration of KF’s in‑house AD Board with HDMI/VGA/DP video interfaces enables the optional integration of temperature, brightness, proximity and vibration sensors, as well as a sensor that detects the actual operation of the TFT.
The data collected by the sensors can be monitored remotely thanks to the USB‑B connection integrated on the KF1840 board, which uses an FTDI interface to communicate with the remote computer.

Like the other components in the monitor, the KF1840 board has an extended temperature range from −20 °C to +80 °C, enabling the product to withstand even extreme, fully outdoor applications.
